Whatever the final outcome is, I would really like to see us not have the space race involved this time.  Lets make this a true epic game.  In the last two games, both lasted about 1 year.  If we are looking to mimic real life and to have a long game, I would like to leave this out.  This way it makes winning the game that much harder.  In both games, the winner won because of the space race and no one could stop them, or there wasnt enought time to stop them.  And not only that, it would allow us to use our modern units more.  In both games, we dont even get to use the modern weapons.  If we do, its very little.

If there is no space race, then are we looking for an exclusively military conclusion?  Would we want to keep diplo or cultural victory options?

If it is going to be an all out military slugfest, maybe an always war setting would be interesting?  Or some way of pre-assigning teams, if we think having more than two teams slugging it out (where this is likely to gravitate to by default) is desirable (but even so, multiple teams may still end up in two alliances facing off).

Yes, we would still have all other victories enabled, like cultural, etc.  This way there is another way to win.  I just dont like the space race as its too easy to achieve.  Looking back at the other games, all of the other victory options were a long way off, but the space race was easy to achieve.  So I say leave all other victory conditions except the space race.  And NO teams.  Just let diplomacy do its work as we have done in past games.

Part of the reason I suggested trying to combine the "Next War" mod with any changes we want was to extend the life of the game nearer the end - the space victory is harder to achieve because more techs are needed to get there.
Having said that, eliminating it completely achieves it too Smiley Perhaps we should in fact remove all the winning conditions and aim for a purely diplomatic victory (ie. we all vote on the forums) when we feel we're reaching the end of the game? That would surely promote RP wouldn't it?

Well, I would not be in favor to that as it could be scewed.  You could have friends voting for a certain player.  I just think taking out the space race is sufficient and leave the rest to diplomacy an or other victory conditions.  I agree that it takes more techs for the space race, but in both games its obvious that techs were not a problem to achieve when compared to culutral victory or world domination, etc...

Actually, there could be some merit to a purely diplomatic victory, in so far as a UN election or better still, one via the forums.  The difference between the two would be that the UN election limits the number of candidates and the votes are based on population alone (I think?).  Whereas in the forums, we could have each vote as equal, or figure out a different, custom formula.

But the end result would be less emphasis on war or climbing the tech ladder.  Much more focus on RP and diplomacy.

It's worth considering, anyway. Smiley

If we are imagining unique approaches to victory, consider that ending the game and winning the game don't have to be as intertwined in something we create as they are in the out of the box game.

Hey guys!

Sorry, I've had a lot on my plate this Winter and to be honest, CC3 has been a lower priority than the work projects (I know, sacrilege, right?!)  Game management takes up a good deal of time and right now I just don't have those minutes to spare each day.

I hope you can be patient with me.  CC3 will happen eventually, I just don't know when!  I'll contact each of you when that time comes, to give you first opportunity at signing up if you are still interested.

Thanks for your patience and interest!

Would anyone be up for taking over for Persia (shadyforce) as a permanent replacement in this game in the meantime?

http://www.civstats.com/viewgame.php?gameid=1362

We are in the modern / industrial stage of the game and shady has one of the smaller empires, but one of the bigger armies - which was about to see some imminent and voluntary (and likely very successful) use... Smiley

This is a fun game on an interesting (Lakes based) map with some interesting diplomatic twists.

There also are spoiler threads for each player (don't read them if you're considering subbing in) and an active lurker community, all here:
http://realmsbeyond.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=37

Anyone interested?

Cheers

Hey guys!

I miss our banter and of course our Chaos and Civility games.  However, I'm currently "deployed" in the fields of the Williston Basin (oilfields, that is), contracted to do wellsite geology.  It requires me to be away from the home office for a good 20-25 days, on average, and our internet connection is a sluggish satellite link.

So, unfortunately, I won't be able to enjoy any multiplayer gaming, much less hosting of such.

With any luck, our little motley band of Civvers can stay in contact though.  We had such a great community over the past few years!
