Just the standard 40civs mod, no special customizations.
Though loading with any other mod, I think might render our saved game incompatible? So we pretty much HAVE to have the 40civs mod--as far as I understand, anyway.
Even if a new 40-Civs mod is compiled and released for the new V3.19 patch
- will it be able to load an old V3.17 save?
- do we even want to switch to the V3.19 patch?
The changes in the new patch look fine but there's hardly anything we couldn't live without. It might be easier to just play out the rest of this game out on V3.17, using a dual install if necessary.
Creating a 'dual install' isn't hard at all. In fact I'd recommend doing it anyway just in case your main installl gets upgraded without your realizing / intending it. (Sounds like that might be a possibility with Steam)? To create a dual install, just make a copy of your 'Civilization 4' folder in the Program Files > Firaxis Games folder. Call it 'Civilization 4 V3.17' or something. Then go into that folder and rename the Beyond The Sword folder to 'Beyond the Sword V3.17' or similar.
Then create a copy of your My Games > Beyond the Sword folder and rename it to match the name you used in the previous step - i.e. 'Beyond the Sword V3.17' (or whatever name you used). When running your V3.17 BtS application, it will look here for saves, mods etc.
Then you should be able to continue running the V3.17 version without any problems even after patching the original. (Just run the executable directly from the Program Files > Firaxis Games > Civilization 4 V3.17 > Beyond the Sword V3.17 folder).
But in summary, I would suggest we continue to play this game on V3.17 for the sake of simplicity.
Cheers,
