The Greeks would like to offer your alliance peace, before an inevitably very bloody battle in the forests Northeast of Vienna.  After the assault on the city, your troops are outnumbered 2 to 1, and many of your units are not fit for defense.  Our various military experts all agree that we would inevitably win the battle, at a very high cost of life, although at a much lesser cost than your side.  However, it unfortunately seems a tactical necessity, if this war is to continue.

The Greek people do not want the battle to have to take place.  Would your alliance accept a temporary peace treaty(OOC: cease fire), so our men on the battlefield would be brought temporarily brought out of their state of conflict, and a path without so much spilled blood could be pursued?

Such an offer is a most interesting proposition. I have seen many a situation where leaders continue to send their troops to their deaths despite the inevitable situation and I have been unable to understand why their pride prevents them from saving the lives of their people. Therefore, it would be hypocritical of me to not to listen to reason in this war.

I agree that our armies are in a situation of deadlock. However, any peace would have to involve a more permanent resolution which will solve the underlying conflict. Any temporary cease fire will likely only increase the casualties in the longer term should our armies be forced into war again.

I will order my troops to stand down for 1 turn while this situation is borne out (ie. I will not perform any military action against you this turn). I humbly request the same of you and the carolingians and suggest the coalition which follows The Path does the same.

I suggest we use this time to enter into diplomatic talks to establish the requirements for a peaceful resolution.

As you know, The Founders are looking for repentance from those who seek to undermine The Truth. Would other leaders like to put forward their suggestions for how peace can be established? As long as sensible dialogue continues I hope we can continue in a state of mutual respect and prevent the needless loss of life you describe.

OOC: Unfortunately I'm not going to be around much this weekend but I'll try and read the boards when I can!

We too will stand where we are as discussions of peace are agreed upon.

Well, the Carolingians have already suffered a great deal, losing many soldiers and 2 cities.  We feel that is more than enough loss.  They may also possibly be in the right to desire reparations, although that issue does not have to be discussed yet.

Furthermore, I believe you, as a very large nation, do not have much to fear from the Carolingians.  Perhaps Founder missionaries can be allowed into Carolingian lands so there can be dialogue and a fostering of mutual respect?

In the end we believe the best path is allowing the people to decide for themselves, and occupying their cities is not necessary for this if missionaries are allowed in.

We are and have never been attempting to cause loss for the carolingian people. It is their leader's position we aim to change.

We do not fear carolingia. Founders missionaries are always available to teach those who wish to discuss The Truth and follow The Path.

Again - we fully agree with your statement. However, we do not feel that the carolingian people will be allowed to decide for themselves while their leader is so outspoken against The Truth and attempts to undermine The Path. I am open to any suggestion which will reverse this situation and pledge to prevent further military action while constructive dialogue continues. However, at the moment I will admit to being sceptical about how this can be achieved.

We would welcome your missionaries into Mainz, Ulm and Augsburg after you repatriate them to rightful Carolingian rule. We are a tolerant and philosophical people when not faced with a ravenous invading horde. We know you're not all ravenous, but the Skarsgardians certainly are, and the tales of their horrendous treatment of the captured Mayan peoples, as well as our brothers and sisters of Mainz must horrify anyone of Faith anywhere. You must keep your savage allies under control.

Dialogue this is. Constructive I am not so sure. greece seems to be suggesting one thing and carolingia another. america has simply stationed units inside a carolingian city.

I am looking for a constructive suggestion on how peace can be achieved that will mutually benefit all sides. Terms must be laid out and agreed by all to ensure peace will be long lasting and not merely an interlude amongst fighting.

The Founders position is clear - we wish to see the leadership of carolingia overthrown so that we can be sure Founders missionaries will be able to carry out their teachings without fear of persecution.

greece has suggested their current vassal agreement will ensure this to be the case. It is possible we could concede that such an agreement could be considered satisfactory. However, I would seek further clarification on this before I can agree to it.

The current occupation of various ex-carolingian cities is another matter to be discussed.

I am sure other nations currently engaged in war will have their own viewpoints and matters to be discussed. I urge each and every one of them (on both sides) to put forward their terms, requirements, concessions and reservations in an orderly manner so that we may move forward.

There's a war going on?!  Shocked

Our troops were just enjoying the many taverns and buxom women in Vienna.

We're prepared to honour any peace agreement.

Much as our troops like the open thigh policy in Vienna ... we much rather prefer home.

Our women are very protective of their freedom and our cities. Fiercely so. They may be a little extravagant in their thanks of soldiers that come to their defense, and treat them with respect... and I guess many of them do like the foreign accents on a man in uniform?

OOC:  Well, the Americans do speak softly and carry a big stick ...  Wink  And perhaps the peace being offered in this thread has been spelled incorrectly?  Cheesy
