It isn't actually mentioned in the rules that people are supposed to take every turn, and while i would certainly agree to play in a game where the basic understanding is that everyone should take every turn asap, that is not the case in this game. If you are going away for a weekend(or similar) you don't have any duty to tell anyone that you'll miss a turn or two...

Agreed.  But if it is every weekend, thats when it becomes an issue.  We all know everyone is busy and that is why we ask 1 turn a day.  If you miss 2 or more its kind to let Capsavian know so we can avoid the AI issue.  And if you dont let him know that OK too, so long as you dont do it all the time. Thats when a sub is key.

Irony alert!

{11 lines of argument from Viktor ... }  I am not going to get into an argument with you, the rules are rules.

well it's sort of in the rules...

"but I'm not willing to let the timer run out for extended periods of time as it holds up the game."

So while most incidents of missed turns are permitted,  if it gets to 60-70% or over(for an extended period of time, at least a week), then I think that is probably against the rules.  But no one has come close to that except Namliam.

On another note, I propose we decrease the turn timer by 1-2 hours.  It seems every single day it takes over 24 hours?  So 24 hours is what the desire was, and since it always goes over that, it should be decreased.

I agree as well, the timer should be reduced as it was before christmas.

I must apologize, I was annoyed at work today and while checking the forum on my break, I read Oyzars reply to my message which made me more annoyed.

.  So thats why I replied bluntly.  But as Levgree points out, what I said is not radical, but in the rules.  Capsavian, maybe you should put in the rules a clause, we all know if we miss 3 turns without notification, then that civ gets switched to AI.  It seems like we need a clause stating that if a person is constantly missing turns as in the example of Namlia, then you will be switched to AI.  We all agree that a missed turn does happen and that no biggy.  I also believe that we all agree that we cant have players playing one turn then skipping 2 turns because they forget or they dont feel like playing their civ as Oyzars example.  Its not fair to all of us that want to keep the game moving.  The timer is set for 24 hours, which is fine.  We dont have a problem waiting for everyone to do their turn.  The issue is what was stated above.  I hope this clears things up for you Oyzar.

That might cause problems... if most people are playing at the same time each day (for example, I play around 8pm after I get home from work) then whomever happens to be last in the turn order is in a difficult situation.  Let's say there is traffic and you are 10 minutes late home that day... bam, you miss your turn for that day (by 10 minutes).

It hasn't happened to me personally yet, but it will happen to someone.  I think the extra couple of hours gives useful wiggle room to avoid that, and doesn't really cost very much.  (If the timer is running out every day, then worst case scenario is that every 12 days you might have to skip a day and wait 2 days for your turn instead of 1... much better than missing a turn though, especially if you are at war)!  Shocked

Viktor -- I actually did change the turn timer after Christmas (remember, it was at 48 hours or so at one point. Smiley  )

I in fact reduced the timer by one hour, at the previous turn, before any of this was posted, since the world was at peace.  Coincidentally, right after doing that it seems that Bjarkekr and Oyzar went to war. Wink  I may increase it back up by an hour if other parties are at war, to allow for the maximum amount of time for players to take their war-time turns in the correct order.

Yes, the "ideal" goal is to aim for 24-hours, assuming the timer goes down to the full cycle.  I, too, enjoy taking my turn at the same time each day when possible.
