You mean the leaderheads doesn't come up? Have you changed any settings from previously?

I don't think I changed anything. The Leaderheads showed up but it would not let me in and would say lost connection after a few minutes.
Anyway I have reloaded the mod and that seems to have sorted the problem.
I have missed my turn and played out of turn this turn but it should not matter in the war.

If you tried logging in right after the turn sequence started, please be patient and come back in an hour. I notice that at the start of each turn sequence, many people try logging in at once, and that seems to create a bottleneck each time.
If you were trying to log in 22 minutes before the end of this particular turn, then I must apologize; I restarted the server as it was lagging again. It was only down for 4-5 minutes though (the time it took to reboot and then load up the pitboss program).

Did you recently change connection or computer? This seems to only happen to some people.. Waiting might help... Rebooting the server might help too...

Just curious, could the mod that we used to get this many people playing perhaps not that good? When we played Chaos and Civilty I, we never had this problem with people logging in, or the servers crashing.

Hi Chris,
No firewall updates, nothing of that nature? Other than the standard Windows XP updates, no settings have been adjusted with respect to the pitboss server.
If you're running a software firewall, such as ZoneAlarm, could you try temporarily disabling it before logging into the pitboss server? You wouldn't want to run like that obviously, but we could rule that out as a culprit.
Viktor -- the mod allows up to 40 players (we designated 28), so certainly there will be adjusted loads. In particular, I think, with the increased number of players logging in and out. Thus far, it seems the server has been handling the load adequately (as I think the majority of resource requirements come with total units and exposed land mass--a number which theoretically should more or less balance out as neighbors swallow neighbors).
That's just as per my observations--not sure of the existence of any technical benchmarks.
I have been rebooting the server every 3 days or so, at this point. (hopefully it won't require daily or even more frequent reboots as we progress!)

Rusten said that for him just waiting helped... Maybe you could try that? Though eventually he was totally unable to login... http://www.chaosciv.com/index.php/topic,411.0.html check this thread... It is pretty obvious that it is this mod that is causing the problem, though why it is only for some i don't know.

Stuck on this screen
I've been stuck on that screen before now, but it's always worked given enough time. Once it waited about 5 minutes before it appeared - but I've not got a particularly fast internet connection, and someone else may have been using it at the same time

Still unable to connect, ive tried waiting. While looking at my network usage it seems that civ4 is still recieving a lot of data conected for 25 minutes over 70MB recieved.

How long did you wait at the civ selection screen? Did anything recently change with your hardware software or connection?

Ive waited over 25mins.
I did change ISPs about 3 weeks ago but was able to log in for at least 2 weeks before encountering this problem
The only change that i can think of is the last server reboot News: 11-18-08 -- pitboss server rebooted at 1:45 PM MT (GMT-7) due to lagging.[/url]

I'm rebooting the server again now. Please try again.
Nothing has changed with respect to IPs; if they had, you wouldn't be able to reach the server at all (not even the leader choosing screen).
It's possible your ISP may have changed settings of some sort--blocked a specific port in an attempt to safeguard against potential security or spam concerns, or something odd like that (assuming you are unable to access other pitboss games with direct IP, since you indicated you can via Gamespy).
Anyway, please try it again, as you cited the 11-18-08 announcement as coinciding with your connection issue.

You know, I am new to this group but to get mine started I had to load and run the update. http://boa.apolyton.net/civ4/files/...SPatch_v317.exehttp://www.gamershell.com/download_27920.shtmlI also had problems with my firewall. My program would not let the heads appear to check my profile. I had to go back and forth between the game and my firewall to find which program it was trying to use to connect to the server. I found it, allowed it, and it works fine. I found it is labeled "System Services" If you are running a firewall, I would start by turning it off and trying to log in. If it works, check the allowed connections.

Hello, Well ive tried everything i can think off and that has been suggested - short of a reformat/reinstall which i dont really have time for im out of ideas. Perhaps if there is anyone waiting to join the game they can take over my civ. Thanks for your patience while ive tried to sort this out. Hopefully the game will be working again for Chaos and Civ 3 Chris

That really sucks, Chris. I was hoping you would be able to find a way to make it work. I will change your civ to AI, and I do have one person who indicated (about 6-8 weeks ago) that they would be interested in playing. If by some chance you are able to rejoin us, you will be most welcome, Chris.

Hopefully the game will be working again for Chaos and Civ 3 Chris That's pretty odd. Clearly you have the right connection details still since you got the 'connecting to existing peers Munro and Geronimo etc'. One thing that hasn't been tried yet - you and Capsavian could try connecting up over Hamachi? That might help since presumably neither of you has applied any patches to your civ installs since it was working, so most likely it is some kind of network connectivity issue which Hamachi might help with.. (You wouldn't necessarily have to get everyone using it, just Chris and the pitboss host). Worth a try? Have you used Hamachi before? Takes about 2 mins. to install and you can get it from here: https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/list.aspOne of you will just need to create a network for the other to join, and PM him the details.

I wouldn't have thought a reformat would be needed - but perhaps if you reinstall the game into a fresh directory, apply all the patches and then try? It's not as much work as reformatting your entire machine (I did that last month!)

Also: Chris, are you able to log into other pitboss games (or at least get as far as the civ selection screen)? Try tgciv4.no-ip.org and tgbts.no-ip.org for example. These are a couple of other games I'm in. You won't be able to get into the game (please don't try) but you should get at least as far as the civ selection screen. I've PM'd you the password so you can test it out.

I'm willing to try, sure, though I'm still at a loss as to the reason behind this. Snarlin PMed me, and asked to be kicked. He is on holiday for four days, and thought he would have a decent connection, but decided it wasn't fast enough for Civ. So he is coming back. No sneak attacks in the works, don't worry.
