If you can't afford an escort for the settler, it's prudent to move him only one tile per turn in open territory.  That way you won't land next to the bugger with no movement left.

Or you need to utilize that free 10 turns we had at the beginning of universal peace (because of the advanced start)... then SETTLE to get him out of harm's way!

Sonny didn't have too much of a chance to take advantage of the universal peace, unfortunately.  But yeah, an escort is a must with those dang wolves running around!

Of course, Sonny is sitting there thinking to himself, "thanks for telling me that NOW, guys!"   Lips sealed

Hey - I once had THE SAME BEAR eat 2 escorted settlers in one PTBS game!

Needless to say, the bear lasted longer than my Civ. Sad

The irony? I was Russia.

ROFL, that is just awesome!

Not to laugh at your misfortune, but just the fact that, yes, that is indeed ironic.

The equivalent would be getting one of my settlers eaten by...a prairie dog, I guess?  (North Dakota's state animal).  That would be just plain weird though...

yeah i know its stupid to let a settler go unguarded. but my warior was just 1 tile away and i though he would be OK. I am just not used to play with barbarians on. I will not make the same mistake twice!!!! Wink
