Thanks to Ebenezer's thread on Tactical Gamer, I just found out about Chaos & Civility 2 and would like to join up.

I'm torn between several leaders (and I really don't want one that's already being used), so I think I'll pick Hannibal of Carthage.

Thanks!

I see there are also 3 Dutch players as well.   Why do I feel like I'm shooting myself in the foot by not picking a nation that starts with the Financial trait?  Wink

If this is really supposed to have at least a bit of a RP focus, why wouldn't we just randomize it or at least somehow restrict 1 of each nation?

If the host wants it I can change my civ...I don't really care which civ I end up with but Darius would just be my top choice.

I agree.  It seems weird that the game will stress role playing, yet we'll have 6 people playing the same 2 roles.  How does that work?

well people can change their nation name and leader name, so it's not quite like they are the same country.

Well I would prefer random really. And agree it may help role playing if there was less power picking. But if you offer people picks that is what many will do. So only random stops power picking, although it doesn't stop power playing. I am happy playing in a less or even none competitive game but many are not. There were an awful lot of power picks already down when I chose the Dutch. And if I can choose I like Financial for obvious reasons and Creative makes the early game so much less hassle. So the Dutch are my favourite along with Queen Liz.

But I am not sure the Dutch are really a power pick. Not really better than any other Financial, although that itself is very strong. Some may say overpowered  Shocked It's the Financial/Immortals that you have to watch out for. The Dutch don't have a killer earlu uu  Wink Or even a killer late one  Shocked

One plays Willem of Nederlands
I play.. I dunno.... Grumplehide of Gnomeland (gnome lore is generally bankers and/or artisans, fits fin/cre nicely)
Someone else plays.... uh... Fuzzywumpkin of Ewok.  Those little furballs looked creative to me (logs and rocks to kill AT-ATs and Stormtroopers, plus they liked elaborate storytelling, both signs of high imaginations), and how do we know they didn't have an economy so advanced they could live in tune with nature and still have everything.  Yeah, its a stretch.  Who cares.

Or we could be 3 warring tribes of the same nation, split by a civil war and eternally feuding.

in my experience most people promptly rename their leaders, civs, and sometimes cities.  What it started as (or if its a duplicate) has little bearing on the game.

No, I disagree

No random.  Each civilization just has its unique buildings and units and traits.  Every person should be able to choose who they want.  I do not feel threatened by early unique civs.  The role playing is what counts no matter what civ you want.  As a returning member, I agree with Levgree and keep the rules in place.

Welcome, newcomers!

As to RP and leader choices, yes, I would suspect most of us will be inventing our own nationality, regardless.  The leader choice is merely to facilitate the traits, UU, and unique building that would best fit your tribe.

Just five more slots to fill, and we're ready to rock and roll!

Actually, after thinking it over, could you instead change me from Darius to Elizabeth of England?  Grin This is just because I have played Darius I a lot in my single player games and I was thinking of trying out a different leader for once.

Assuming that you were NOT serious about a 10 HOUR  (  Shocked ) turn timer in the discussion thread ... I'd like to give this a go ... as it seems too many old friends are here not to!  Wink

I think I'll have to sit with the book and think about leader choice ... too used to taking what they give me in GOTM's

And I need to find one that oyzar won't ridicule ...  Cheesy

Should know later tonight and will post ...

It is guilds not drama... And UU's off the normal tech path get quite alot better in no tech trading because it is much easier to keep on strange path without being forced to trade down all the other paths...

oyzar talked me into it.

I'll take Tokugawa of Japan. It's my first real MP game, so I can slip into the paranoia of that role easily.  Cheesy

Now, before we get going, is there a thread that explains all the technical basics to a MP virgin (ahem)  Embarrassed such as myself?

Sure there are plenty of great articles in the article secion of cfc... http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=217179 this thread(not just the arcticle) can be usefull for learing the basic tactics and strategies for mp. Keep in mind that this game is ment to have somewhat of a rpg focus though so the pen can often be mightier than the sword(or the gun). Oftentimes i find that the longer you can avoid war the better, as humans are way better at defending than AI. Also you need to be way more ruthless when you first go to war for the same reason... I suggest that anyone who doesn't have a solid grip of mp should read this if you want to play somewhat sound tactically and strategically, or maybe read it anyways as it is quite decent. Especially Gigaz' reply is worth reading. I also gave my comments why some things might or may not apply to the kind of large games there are here...

Welcome, new arrivals!  You have brought us to 26 players.

The game settings are as per the Game Settings thread, as this seemed to be the prevailing consensus lacking any strong objections.  Turn timer will be a minimum of 20 hours, increasing if needed when multiple entities are at war (to help aid the prevention of double moves).

I strongly urge everyone to install the mod--we should be able to launch a test game tomorrow, at this rate. Smiley  (the test will be merely so you may verify that you can connect to the pitboss server alright; the actual game will be set up after that, so you do still have a little more time to select your leader choice).

And Sisiutil, this will be an exciting opportunity for you!  As Oyzar said, the main focus on this particular game is for roleplay.  As such, your diplomatic skills will probably be just as important (if not more) than your tactical skills.

I've never heard anyone accuse Tokugawa of being diplomatic before...  Cheesy

However, the real-life Tokugawa was a master of diplomatic relations as well as war, so it would be appropriate.

A question for clarification: a "20-hour minimum turn timer" means you have to wait at least 20 hours before making your next move? Remember I'm a MP newbie...  Embarrassed

It means once a new turn begin everyone have 20 game hours to take their turn(aprox 24 real hours). The turn either ends because everyone have taken their turn or because the previous timer have ran out. With 28 players you can expect the game to go to time or nearly to time pretty much every turn.. If you miss a turn your units will do whatever you ordered them to do in advance(with go to commands and shift buttons etc) or nothing..
